One thing we switched off
Most sites quietly download a page the moment its link scrolls onto your screen, in case you tap it. On our catalogue that was 69 KB — more than three whole papers — spent on pages you had not asked for.
We turned it off. A page is now fetched when you start the tap that opens it, which is the moment you have actually decided you want it. Nothing feels slower and nothing is spent on a page you never open.

Open your phone’s data usage screen, note the figure against your browser, sit a paper, and look again. If our number is wrong we would rather hear it than keep publishing it — tell us.
A number on a public page is a promise, and bundles grow quietly. That measurement is how we find out before you do.
